Democrats
for Hort
If you consider yourself a "Democrat," I
understand that the first question you may ask yourself is,
"why should I vote for a Republican to represent my interests
in this District?" I respectfully ask that you put party
affiliation aside for the moment and consider my ideas with
an open mind.
I want to open a dialogue within our community, and especially
with those of you who have historically voted for Democrats
at the ballot box. Let me start by sharing with you my vision.
I am proposing a plan of action to make New York a better
place - not just a Republican plan or a Democratic plan, but
a plan for all New Yorkers who want better government and
a better America. If you read through my positions on various
issues, you will see that my goal is not to cater to special
interests and entrench myself in Congress without regard to
what's best for this District. Rather, my agenda encompasses
broad based policy initiatives designed to move us toward
a day when people need not live in fear of their surroundings;
when each and every child attends a safe school that provides
a superior education; when each and every willing person has
the opportunity to either have a job or create jobs for others;
and, when each and every American is empowered to pursue his
or her own definition of happiness.
In order for a Democratic Congressman to win reelection
in this District, we've seen that he must merely maintain
the status quo. The less your Democratic Congressman does,
the fewer enemies he makes, and the better position he's in
for reelection. By convincing the voters that, by definition,
all Republicans must be "bad" for our District,
the "Democratic Machine" has sought for years to
deprive you of an informed decision on election day. Don't
be blinded by party labels. Think about it - if a Republican
were to represent this District in Congress, he or she would
have to work harder than any Democrat to earn your trust,
respect and future support. The reason is simple: if a Republican
representative in this heavily Democratic District did not
earn your vote every single day, he or she would lose the
honor of representing you in very short order. While Democratic
incumbents are well advised to "keep their heads down"
and simply offend as few people as possible while pleasing
the party bosses in order to win yet another term, a Republican
faces an uphill battle from day one. I would rather face each
day knowing that I must earn your vote rather than take your
vote for granted. And I look forward to that challenge.
The goal of a public servant is to make things better for
everyone. I embrace that goal. I have solutions for our problems,
not simply issues to use as a platform for partisan bickering.
You can expect more from your Congressman. I pledge to you
that if elected, I will deliver and earn your vote everyday.
