Independents
for Hort
I am running for United States Congress because I
want my children to be able to grow up in an America where
each individual is capable of having a voice in government.
I am determined to work tirelessly to bring government back
to the people, back to the constituents for whom our representatives
are elected.
We are going to have a difficult time achieving real answers
to real problems unless we rid Washington of the special interests
that have deprived average voters of their voice for too long.
Many Americans have been beset by cynicism and alienation
because they feel that Congress is governed by money and greed.
Many Americans believe that the government doesn't reflect
their hopes and aspirations, and instead reflects the policies
and procedures of those who seek nothing more than reelection
and monetary contribution. I want to restore confidence in
our democratic process and encourage and motivate people to
work and strive for causes bigger than themselves. In short,
I want every American to share in the pride of our system
and our institutions.
The problem with our current system is rooted in certain
aspects of our system itself where incumbents have significant
advantages and challengers have significant hurdles. The result
is a virtual monopoly of power by incumbents, ensuring that
insulated legislators are less likely to respond to the concerns
of their constituents. This aspect of the system has become
inherently undemocratic and progressively less responsive
to the people of New York. I will work to change this. Let
me make clear that I am running to ensure a better, safer
world for my children, I am not running in order to retire
in this seat.
